Bali has many designated art galleries as well as “museums” however it could be said that many of these museums bridge the line of being art galleries also. The arts are such a strong part of the cultural identity of Indonesia which means that the arts represent the history of Indonesia. We have tried to include a varied selection of places and some of the more traditional museum settings also which will take you through the history and culture of Bali and Indonesia rather than just the arts. These are limited however so please note this prior to planning your tours you will be in many locations seeing more Art Galleries than typical museums. |

Arma Museun of Art (ARMA)
Location: Jl. Raya Pengosekan, MAS, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali AgungRai Museum of Art (ARMA) showcases both traditional and modern Balinese art collections with a passion for preserving cultural history and values. One of the most beautiful things about this museum is the very large gardens that surround it and showcasing Balinese flora, buildings and artworks.

NEKA Art Museum
Location: Jalan Raya Sanggingan, Kedewatan, Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali Opened in 1982 and named after a Balinese teacher Suteja Neka who collected paintings as a means of artistic documentation. The museum has a selection of works from many famous Balinese artists, expats who have lived here and influenced local artists and international artists and historical cultural items.

Subak Museum
Location: Jl. Gatot Subroto, Banjar Anyar, Kec. Kediri, Kabupaten Tabanan, Bali The Subak Museum showcases the centuries-old Balinese agricultural methods and the management of rice fields and its irrigation systems collectively known as ‘subak’. Unique to Bali, the subak, as well as the wealth of traditional agricultural methods and tools, are collected, recorded and kept within this Subak Museum.

Le Mayeur Museum
Location: Jl. Hang Tuah, Sanur Kaja, Kec. Denpasar Sel., Kota Denpasar, Bali Le Mayeur is a memorial museum mainly housing the artworks & personal history of painter Adrien-Jean Le Mayeur de Merpres (February 9, 1880 – May 31, 1958). A Brussels-born artist who was impressed by the shores of Sanur and dedicated his entire life there to the two things he loved the most: the arts and women.

Batur Geopark Museum
Location: Jl. Raya Penelokan, Batur Sel., Kec. Kintamani, Kabupaten Bangli, Bali Batur Volcano Museum showcases Mt Batur as Indonesia's first Geopark and acts as an educational and research facility. Displaying volcanic rocks from Gunung Batur and Gunung Agung, tektites and meteorites, and historical artifacts including an intriguing Neolithic stone sarcophagus, and Bronze Age weapons.

Bali Provincial State Museum
Location: Jl. Raya Ubud, Ubud, Kecamatan Ubud, Bali The museum government run and comprises primarily of Balinese and Indonesian historical items dating back to Palaeolithic times (1 my BCE to 200.000 BCE) and Mesolithic period (200.000-30.000 BCE). The museum also has art pieces and large gardens. Be ware of the “guides” who say they are free but then charge.

Puri Lukisan Ratna Wartha Museum
Location: situated approx. 30 minutes South of Kuta near Pecatu. This museum specializes in art as Lukisan translates to painting, you will however find carvings and other arts here also. The range of art is very good with many of historical pieces from early periods right through to modern artists. The museum also demonstrates well the individual styles of each village area.

Rudana Museum & Fine Arts
Location: JL. Peliatan, Ubud, Peliatan, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali Is an art museum built by Nyoman Rudana, following the concept of the Bali humanist philosophy of Tri Hita Karana, where art makes a contribution to public well-being. The museum is laid out over 3 floors again following Tri Hita Karana and refreshingly the museum is surrounded by rice fields and gardens.

Blanco Renaissance Museum
Location: Jl. Raya Campuhan, Sayan, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali The Museum opened in 1998 was the original home of artist Antonio Blanco who moved to Bali in 1952 and married a traditional Balinese dancer named Ni Ronji in 1953. Containing over 300 of his own works and several works of renowned Balinese painters. Beautiful gardens surround the Balinese mansion style house.

Pasifika Bali Museum
Location: Complex Bali Tourism Development Corporation (BTDC) Block P One of the more modern styled museums in Bali showcasing predominantly paintings and sculptures of Indonesian, South East Asian, and Foreign artists who spent time in the area. Located in the BTDC area so close to shopping, hotels, waterblow, and some other areas that may be of interest.

DMZ Museum – 3D Trick Art Museum
Location: Jl. Nakula No.33X, Legian, Kuta, Kabupaten Badung, Bali DMZ (Dream Museum Zone) is not so much a museum however a 3 D trick art location. With dozens of 3D illusion paintings, you can take some amazing photos will make it look like you are in in a vast array of locations and situations. Well worth a couple of hours to get some good photos.

Setia Darma House Museum – Mask and Puppets
Location: Jalan Tegal Bingin, Mas, Ubud, Kemenuh, Gianyar, Bali A hidden gem, various kinds of masks and puppets from different regions in Indonesia and around the world have been collected, stored, and displayed. I AM BALI Interactive Art Museum 3D & Upside-down
Location: Bajra Sandhi Monument Ground Floor, Jl. Raya Puputan, Bali Located on the ground floor of the Bajra Sandhi freedom monument is this great place for photo opportunities with many 3 D artworks and also an upside down area. The top floors of the monument have historical dioramas and a vantage point of the surrounding area. Be sure to bring socks as you need them to enter.

Location: Jl. Raya Keliki, Keliki, Kec. Museum Pendet
Location: Jl. Nyuh Bojog No.6, MAS, Gianyar, Bali A small private museum walking distance to monkey forest from famous Bali Artist Maestro Wayan Pendet a painter and sculptor. There are 80 sculptures and 29 painting by Wayan Pendet and other works by Wayan Gunasta (Wayan Pendet's son). The art blends humor, self-reflection, and tradition. FREE Entry.

Soekarno Centre Museum
Location: Jl. Pejeng Kaja - Tampak Siring No.751, Sanding, Tampaksiring, Bali An interesting place to discover about the first president of Indonesia Soekarno. The museum is outdated however contains personal affects from his life and presidency as well as answers the questions of who he was and what he stood for. He lived in the house the museum is in as his mother was from Bali.

Museum Gedong Arca (Gedung Arca)
Location: Jl. Raya Tampaksiring, Bedulu, Kec. Blahbatuh, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali This is an archaeological museum of which displays historically and culturally important artifacts which have been found within Bali and Indonesia. It is a great insight to the history of Bali and a must visit for anyone who is interested in archaeological and historical events in Bali. This is a FREE museum.

Njana Tilem Museum
Location: Jl. Raya Mas No.162, MAS, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali The museum showcases two famous woodcarvers: Ida Bagus Njana (father) and Ida Bagus Tilem (son). A unique collection of Balinese antiques, paintings and masks is also on display. This is a level of carving rarely seen tradition of the father and modern of the son. The building and grounds are also amazing.

Museum Bung Karno
Location: Jl. Raya Puputan No.80, Dangin Puri Klod, Kec. Denpasar Timor, Bali History of Indonesia's first President Sukarno including books, speeches, photos, paintings, and personal possessions. Even the sewing machine used by his wife Fatmawati to sew the original Indonesian flag hoisted at the Proclamation of Indonesian Independence in 1945. A timeline of his contribution to the formation of the nation showcasing the people's struggle to Independence.
